ABOUT
Project ReSala

MISSION & HISTORY.

We believe that every child, no matter where they are born, deserves access to a safe and functional learning environment. Our mission is to improve Cambodia's most remote and under-resourced primary schools by providing sustainable and ergonomically designed furniture that empowers learning. We strive to achieve through utilising nothing more than recycled cardboard.  By reshaping waste into opportunity, we wish to reduce environmental impact while delivering children the comfort and dignity they deserve in the classroom

HOW IT STARTED.

This initiative began with a question: How can design solve real human problems? Through listening to stories from friends who had the opportunity to visit rural Cambodian schools, and  being inspired by firsthand accounts from teachers who witnessed the rudimentary and degrading classrooms with barely any furniture, l was moved to act. On top of this, my job at Harris farm exposed me to the extreme amounts of cardboard waste Australia produces daily. I witnessed a link between the two overwhelming issues, one of excess, and one of scarcity. This is what drove me to transform cardboard waste into educational furniture.

WHERE WE ARE HEADED.

This vision revolutionised into a reality, evolving donated furniture into a complete system. Today We invite everyday Australians to donate their used cardboard. While we deliver the furniture, it’s the generosity of Australians that brings smiles to Cambodian children and opens doors to better education. This project is the foundation of creating a bridge between communities, and a movement towards circular thinking, where sustainability and social justice meet in every chair we build.

PARTNER SCHOOLS.

In Cambodia, kids like Sophea walk two hours to reach Tale school, where they have to sit on the floor with 40 others. Dara from Potkantel squeezes onto a two-person bench with four other kids, while at Brey, students are left to balance on broken chairs. Though they turn up every day because they know education is their path out. This is what drives our motivation to deliver durable flatpack furniture to these under-resourced schools. We want to provide these brave kids the opportunity they deserve to focus on educational instead of just surviving.
